Synchronizing .mdb Files

Microsoft Access Database (.mdb) files don't synchronize with other network .mdb files when you store the files in an offline folder. However, you can work around this problem. To synchronize any file, click Start, Run and run gpedit.msc. Navigate to Local Computer Policy, Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Network, Offline Files, Files Not Cached. By default, Files Not Cached is set to Not Configured. Set it to Disabled. Log off, and log on again, and set your .mdb files to be available offline.

Have you tested this? I don't think the computer configuration is refreshed at logon, it's refreshed at startup, or 90? minutes. I tried rebooting and it still did not work. I'm pretty sure there's a place that has a list of files that are not synchronized, but I can't remember where it is.

I left a comment on this a few minutes ago, and finally found the KB aritcle. #Q252509 You have to put an entry in and enable it to clear the list.

I can't seem to get this to work.
I have read the article, Joe's comment and Q252509
I have modified both the local machine and domain default
group policies.
Searching the register I can't find any mention of my exclusion string therefore suggesting that the registry isn't getting updated.
Do you have to enable group policies?
Any suggestions what I'm donig wrong?

Please note that you should set the Files Not Cached to Enabled, not to Disabled, for this trick to work.

Very usefull! I can also add is to domain group policy, so you won't have to set it on each computer in your domain.

Would be great if it worked. Did this setting change on both PCs, but still get "Files of this type cannot be made available offline

Running XP Pro on both machines.

Absolutely worthless, the proposed solution doesn't work, neither does the Microsoft knowledge base solution, nor the user proposals.

Are you just leaving this up here to get hits?

I don't know why the users on 2-8-04 or 4-7-05 had issues, but by following the above steps the Access MDB files synchronized fine.

I am listing the details together for future clarification courtesy of Jason McFeetors and follow-up from Omar Salas.

1. To synchronize any file, click Start, Run and run gpedit.msc.
2. Navigate to Local Computer Policy, Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Network, Offline Files, Files Not Cached. By default, Files Not Cached is set to Not Configured.
3. Set it to Enable. Do not list any file extensions.
4. I suggest restarting your PC and after logging back in all files will synchronize.

Administratively assigned offline files
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files

Description
Lists network files and folders that are always available for offline use. This policy makes the specified files and folders available offline to users of the computer.

To assign a folder, click Show and then click Add. In the Type the name of the item to be added box, type the fully qualified UNC path to the file or folder. Leave the Enter the value of the item to be added field blank.
