Joshua Bolton
works as the CIO for a nonprofit in Oregon. He started working with computers in 1990 when he was running a construction business. He decided to go into the computer field shortly thereafter. He went back to school and became hardware certified and then became a CNE in 1993. Hardware, gaming and networking became his passion after fishing and gardening. He set up his first NT Domain in 1995 at Southwestern Oregon Community College. At Hyundai he got to work with DEC Alpha servers and VMS in a manufacturing setting. He has been a presence in these forums since NTFAQ days among others still here today. It has been his pleasure to help others and learn from everyone as a way to keep a broad perspective of IT.
Ian McLean MCSE, MCITP, MCT, CCNP has been working in industry, education, and commerce for 40 years. He started as a design engineer in the Electronics industry and went on to work in commercial education and then as a a university lecturer (called a professor in the US). Currently he is a network consultant and works as an advisor to Scottish Education. Ian met his first computer at the age of 11 and started working with Microsoft networks in 1998, and with Cisco equipment in 1999.
Richard Siddaway
MCSE, MCDBA, MCSD.NET began wrote his first program in 1970. After working in the siesmic exploration industry he moved in to IT on a full time basis. Primarily working with Microsoft technologies as an Infrastructure Architect specialising in Active Directory, Exchange and SQL Server much of hsi recent experience has invlolved migrating enterprises from Windows NT\Exchange 5.5 to Windows 2003\Exchnage 2003. The programming background is still useful as Richard is a very exprienced scripter always looking for the opportunity to automate a process. Having discovered PowerShell 18 months ago he has enthusiastically adopted it in preference to VBScript and has founded the UK PowerShell User Group.
Jason Popp
is a Program Manager for a software development company focusing on Windows-based network security technologies. His technical focus areas are: IPsec, Group Policy, WINS/DNS, DHCP, core domain administration and troubleshooting. He obtained his first computer in 1985 (TI 99/4a) and was immediately introduced to the 'amazing' capabilities of TI Extended Basic. Since that time, he has worked in a variety of different capacities in small and enterprise businesses including Helpdesk, database management, infrastructure systems engineering and architecture, intrusion monitoring and detection, security incident response and most recently product development for an enterprise-class software development company. He has a strong dedication to detail and enjoys helping others understand their PC-related issues and the resultant solutions. Despite his PC addiction, he prefers to spend his time training for, and racing in triathlons.
Melissa Mendick
(formerly Wise) is the IT Director at a state nonprofit facility for the mentally retarded. She has been working with computers since 1990, starting out with DOS 3, moving up to WFWG peer-to-peer networking and on up to Active Directory. While her degree is in Business Administration, the opportunity presented itself to be involved in founding the computer network at the facility and her career path soon to a turn to IT and hasn’t veered since. Melissa also had a 4-year stint in private industry as IT manager at a manufacturing plant. She’s developed into a “Jane-of-all-trades”, being involved in every aspect of the IT department – helpdesk, rollouts, upgrades, project management, network management, office automation, database development. One of the most exciting parts of her job is finding software to help in the training and rehabilitation of clients served at her facility who have learning and physical disabilities. Certifications include MCSE, GIAC GSEC, MVP, and Nursing Home Administrator. She also has been published in “Windows IT Pro” magazine. When not tangled up in Ethernet wiring, Melissa enjoys scuba, reading/watching sci-fi, and relaxing with her family and many pets.
Chris Meyer
is a Sr. Information Security Analyst for a large multi-national corporation in the healthcare industry. He currently specializes in vulnerability analysis/management and computer security incident response. Chris has hands-on experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, vulnerability scanners, anti-virus, and many other security technologies. He also has a solid background in Windows, Exchange, routers, and switches; most recently focusing on how to secure those systems in a corporate environment. His IT career originally started as a NetWare administrator for a University and later a municipality, followed by several years working for resellers prior to starting his current position. Chris holds numerous industry certifications, including CISSP, GCIH, MCNE, and CompTIA IT Project+. Chris spends his spare time with his wife Heidi and their toddler son, Jonathan. They also have two dogs - Montana and Deuce - and three cats - Avery, Pepperjack, and Lyric.
Orin Thomas
is a systems administrator, Windows Security MVP, regular author for Windows IT Pro’s security publication and has authored multiple Microsoft Press Training Kits. He is the convener of the Melbourne Infrastructure Administrators group and holds numerous industry certifications. He lives in Australia with his wife Oksana and their son Rooslan.
Will Willis
- MCSE, Network+, A+, MA.Th - "WWillis" has been a network admin for more than 10 years, currently working for a large point-of-sales hardware and software development company. His primary focus is applications and security, primarily using Microsoft technologies such as AD and related technlogies such as Group Policy, DFS, DNS, WINS, and DHCP, Exchange, IIS, TS, MOM, LCS, SMS, WSUS, SharePoint, PKI, and so on to support 10+ locations worldwide and 150+ servers. He has authored or co-authored a dozen books on networking, OS, and Exchange related topics, and has written dozens of tech articles for various websites and magazines. In addition to his tech background, Will has also released a CD of original instrumental music, and has finished up work on a Master of Arts in Theology. Gregory Smith
MCSE +Security, MCSA +Messaging, first got involved with computers on Apple II systems in school and started writing simple programs in 1983. He got his first tech job in 1990, and has been deploying LANs ever since. Since the late '90s he has focused on Microsoft technologies and has MCSE certification in NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Server 2003. He coauthored the ISA Server (2000) Exam Cram and has contributed and validated questions for certification exams. Greg has worked as an engineer, analyst, and consultant for one Novell and two Microsoft partners over the course of 16 years, doing everything from building PCs and running network cable to designing and implementing multisite Active Directory structures. He developed the Network Status Report - a 'snapshot' of a network's current condition, comparing it to best practices and to current implementations of comparable systems. He currently works for The Asbury Group, which provides IT and other services for continuing care retirement communities.
Bill Hubbard's work in the US Army on the Pershing missile system's computers and electronic devices sparked his interest in computers and led him to pursue a degree in data processing. While in the service, he worked several part-time jobs in the computer industry and was on the Technical Advisory Board of a computer-training company. Bill has worked in almost every aspect of IT: He has been a Field Service Technician, taught PC maintenance and repair courses, and worked in a call center. He has been the IT manager for a major manufacturing company, and worked as a network and systems administrator for a Pre-employment background-screening company. Bill has an associate's degree in Data Processing from Wright College and a bachelor's degree in Business and Management from the University of Maryland. He is a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) and holds several third-party certifications in the IT field. He is currently employed by a major manufacturing company as a Network Administrator, concentrating on the Fourth Shift MRP/ERP application.
