A. A. DPM 2007 can run a pre-synchronization-process script and a post-synchronization script.

In the following example, I run a pre-synchronization script to suspend any running VMs, and a post-synchronization script to resume VM operation. To enable the pre- and post-backup scripts, edit the ScriptingConfig.xml file found in the Program Files\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\Scripting protected server folder, and add a DatasourceScriptConfig entry for each data source that requires a pre- or post-backup script. DataSourceName is the volume for file data sources. The application data-source name form should be "Instance\Database" for Microsoft SQL Server and "Storage group name" for Microsoft Exchange. Don't use quotes with the script path and name; otherwise, the computer will read the XML code as malformed and it won’t function.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScriptConfiguration xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/2003/dls/ScriptingConfig.xsd">
<DatasourceScriptConfig DataSourceName="D:">
<PreBackupScript>D:\Scripts\suspendallvirts.bat</PreBackupScript>
<PreBackupCommandLine />
<PostBackupScript>D:\Scripts\resumeallvirts.bat</PostBackupScript>
<PostBackupCommandLine />
<TimeOut>90 </DatasourceScriptConfig>
</ScriptConfiguration>
