9146 » Even though the 'Bypass proxy server for local addresses' option is on, Internet Explorer connects through an assigned proxy server? 14-Mar-05

When you connect to a Web server using the IP address (http://nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn or FQDN  (http://www.jsiinc.com), Internet Explorer exhibits the subject behavior. If you connect using the host name (http://WebServer) the proxy is bypassed.

This behavior occurs because the Bypass proxy server for local addresses option only checks for host names.

To bypass a some domain names and/or IP addresses:

1. On the Internet Explorer menu, press Tools and Internet Options.

2. Select the Connections tab.

3. Press the LAN Settings button.

4. Press the Advanced button.

5. In the Exceptions area, type the appropriate information.
