A. Outlook Express stores the contents of each folder (e.g, Inbox, Outbox) in a separate file. To work around this problem, you need to delete the file that is associated with the Outlook Express Outbox. Perform the following steps:

  1. Close Outlook Express.
  2. Start Windows Explorer (Start, Run, Explorer or Win+E).
  3. Go to your profile area (e.g., C:\Documents and Settings\savillj\).
  4. Within your profile, go to the folder Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{[very long number]}\Microsoft\Outlook Express.
  5. Find file Outbox.dbx and delete it.
  6. Start Outlook Express (msimn.exe).
  7. The system will create a new Outbox.dbx, and the Outbox will be empty.

I have solved my problem of messages stuck in the outbox (and not moving to the sent folder, and getting re-sent repeatedly, etc.) by something I accidently discovered. I was previously right-clicking the message immediately after sending for the first time (where you're not even sure it got sent, but it did) and moving it to the drafts folder, so I could refer to it. I accidently put one of the replies (message from another emailer)there too (in the drafts folder) So from that folder, I opened it, (right clicked and clicked open) typed a reply in the text box, and clicked on top on 'reply' (instead of send) and not only did it send, but now everything is fine and my messages are moving to sent folder, etc.

I had a message with an attachement stuck in the outbox and I opened the message and deleted the attachement and clicked Send.
